Battle of the Third World

Current Affairs No Comments »

Apart from Africa, our continent is probably with the highest number of third-world country, or third-world mentality, so to speak. When the people from the third world countries realizes that competing in economics or politics in the global arena against the westeners are no longer affordable or  winnable , they turn their attention to gain ‘political mileage‘ or ‘ketuanan’ to other forms of activity or agenda. What agenda is that?

Battle of the Third World that I mean is the currently-running Asian Games in the oil-rich city of Doha in Qatar. The 4 year event is like a mini Olympic Games, or maybe quarter Olympic, in terms of the teams competing, or more importantly, the professionalism of the officials and judges in various disciplines.  I would like to highlight 2 of the most shocking event that proved how biased and unprofessional these species are, when a badly-judged(or deliberately) decision is awarded, or a clear win for a team is denied by ‘the axis’ of middle easterners or east Asians.

1. A Malaysian 65kg category body builder who just won the amateur WORLD MR UNIVERSE few weeks back were robbed off his sure Gold medal by an unknown athlete?

2. The Chinese hockey team were awarded a wrongly-judged penalty corner in golden-goal extra time by the referee, which resulted in a goal. 2-1 to China, off to the final. (look who’s the referee!!)

There are a few more incidents when the judges has been accused of being biased to a certain country or a country from a certain part of Asia, but I’m unable to compile all of them. The sickness of the ‘average-income-civilian’ having to watch this dirty tricks being played on live TV is disgraceful, and not the way up, especially for Asia and the Asians..

These things are not coincidence by any means. When a nation so proud of themselves, take pride of their race and ‘motherland’, but sadly incompetence and incapable on the world stage conquered by the Western world,  they try to find a way to show off their ‘true power‘, ‘their rights‘ to be on the world map. Hence, a way to do that is to show to the world that their athletes are actually competence, capable and world beaters, even if the way to achieve it is by playing a bit of politics.

That is ‘The Battle of the Third World‘…

Diving out loud!!

A quote from www.soccernet.com correspondent. The first comment I can’t agree more on that, spot on.

We continually hear commentators talk of Drogba’s strength when in a
one on one with a defender, but when he has no chance of getting a ball
someone only needs breathe on him and he is rolling around on the
floor.

But then again we saw this with Porto strikers when Mourinho was there, so maybe it is a part of Mourinho’s training programme.
Russ Toyne, Auckland

Drogba is an embarassment to the sport, and a prime example of how
it is only getting worse in the best leagues in the world. When Lehmann
pushed Drogba during Sunday’s match, Drogba must have fallen about five
feet, if that had happened off the pitch, Drogba would probably not
have moved more than an inch or two.
His diving is taking away from the purity of the game, and he is one of
the most talented, if not the most lethal and dangerous striker in the
league, but this theatrical characteristic is making him a joke.
